Marine Ecology |
· Continually review relevant studies and reports – local and international – and distil and report facts and findings most informative to the Integrated Development Management Plan for the Reserve and the preparation of a Marine Reserve and Resources Management Plan. · Refine Marine Zonation Plans in consultation with key stakeholders including but not limited to AMAALA and the Red Sea Development. · Foster and maintain good working relations will Stakeholders such as the Border Guard · Analyze and establish marine environmental best practice benchmarks for the Reserve. · Develop marine scientific standards and guidelines for the Reserve. · Highlight threats to the marine environment within the Reserve and sets of short-term and longer-term strategies to mitigate these and promote a healthy, robust marine ecosystem. · Design and implement short-term, medium-term and long-term studies on species, habitat, climate and sea level changes - and all related methodologies and budget requirements – to strengthen Reserve implementation and management. · Formulate, in collaboration with other relevant Stakeholders and experts, marine species protection and recovery plans and policies including related programs and budgets. · Review and comment on projects, development proposals, activities -applying the Authority’s ‘Stage Gates’ and other environmental management system procedures. · Integrate knowledge, understanding and programs with the Authority’s Terrestrial Ecologist, especially on matters of linkage and bio-physical transition between the terrestrial and marine environments. · Prepare and monitor Restoration Plans for marine and inter-tidal areas · Support Reserve operations and tourism development with compliance and best practice advice. · Provide practical advice on the transformation of existing coastal cities within the Reserve into ‘National Park Cities’. · Under the preparation of dossiers and other material in support of a UNESCO Tentative Listing for unique coral communities along the northern reaches of the Red Sea. · Represent the when requested in marine conservation forums, workshops and conferences. · Grow awareness amongst local communities and businesses of the value and importance of marine conservation · Be field active · Any other duties as may be required. |

· Successful track record ideally within the Region. · Strong verbal and written communications – English and Arabic is essential. · Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills. · Solid understanding of Saudi Governance regulations · In-depth knowledge of in-situ research and monitoring methods and their application · Proven publication record – would be advantageous · Marine Reserve establishment and management – would be advantageous · Specialist knowledge of inter tidal zones, mangroves, corals, species endemic to the Red Sea – would be highly advantageous · In-depth knowledge of marine conservation best practices and principles. · The ability to integrate science with practical management · SCUBA - certified and experienced · Report writing and presentation skills · Based in at Al Wajh · KSA Driver’s License |
